HAVE YOU FOUND YOUR CALLING IN LIFE?

I have always wanted to have a job that I feel is my calling. Something I'm passionate about, that adds value to the lives of others and gives me a sense of fulfillment. I have spoken with a lot of people who talk about wanting to find something similar; we all want the perfect job-one that is our calling, that is God's will for our lives. The problem is, many of us don't have the perfect job and will likely never find it.

There might be a need for some of us to change jobs but for many of us, it is in our control to live our current job like it is our calling. Recently, I read a book that asserts that people who think of their work as their calling are more likely to be happy and successful than people who think of work as merely their job or their career. It is more a change of how we view our jobs rather than a change in our jobs themselves. The Bible has a verse that says, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." Colossians 3:23-24 We are all "called" to do our work as unto the Lord.

God may have a future job/career/calling for your life but that doesn't change the fact that you are "called" to live and work for him right where you are today. Take a minute to read the following questions and write down one goal for how to live your calling today.

If you thought of your current job as your calling and as God's will for your life, what would you do differently?

How does what you do at work effect or benefit people?

What are your particular giftings and abilities and how can you use them at work or in the lives of the people around you.

Ask God to show you one area where you can treat your job more like a calling...and then go and do it.
