Why you're not religious, even if you think you are.

I often hear people make comments about religion or religious people; its one topic that everyone seems to have an opinion on. But few people seem to agree or even have the same definition of the word. And oddly enough, some of the most religious people I know say they aren't religious. I'm not
sure if I'm confused or if they are.

Fortunately, the Bible has something to say on the topic. I don't hear people talking about its definition very often though. I think its because it is a hard standard to meet.
If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:26-27
God is more concerned about our words and actions than about our ceremonies. You could argue that he is more concerned about how we act when we aren't at church than he is with how we act at church.

My takeaway from this is that our everyday "unspiritual" words and actions count more toward earning "religious points" with God than our "religious practices" do.

So, using God's definition, how religious are you and how religious should you be?
