When I was in college, I heard someone say that “ministry is the wake you leave behind in the pursuit of Christ.” I think a lot about how to do ministry in all aspects of my life but I want to step back for a minute and remember that the ministry of a christian falls in the shadow of the christian’s relationship with Christ. The problem is that it is harder for me live

out or even define how to have a great relationship with Him. It is a lot easier for me to just do religious activities.
I recently watched a YouTube sermon by Francis Chan (How to hear from God (DIY)) where he asked a youth conference audience what questions they could think of to determine if he truly loved his wife. Some of their questions were: “have you been faithful, how do you make her smile, is it Facebook official, what emotions do you feel when you look at her, and would you die for her.” After they finished asking their questions, he turned it around on them and asked the same questions to them about their relationship with Christ. How convicting! I'm sure we could all stand to undergo some improvement when we think of it that way.
In Matthew 22:37, Jesus says that the greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” The main focus of our lives shouldn’t be about evangelizing, going to a worship service, or any other religious activity, but rather about loving Christ with our whole being.
Can your relationship with Christ be defined as tangibly as your relationship with your spouse, family member, or close friend? What one tangible thing can you do right now, today, to improve your relationship with Christ? Do that thing! If we could actually learn to more faithfully make our relationship with Christ the number one priority, just imagine how our lives would change.
