Is this one thing holding you back?

A couple months ago, I had the opportunity to encourage a fellow believer and co-worker as he started a lunch break Bible study at work. Like most of us, he was concerned about details, who would show up, and what it would look like. He wasn't sure what kind of material to cover or exactly
what to talk about. I encouraged him to "just start."

Most of us have had some dream or desire that we feel God is leading us to pursue. But in my experience, he usually doesn't show us how it is all going to work out; instead, he often gives us just enough information to take the next step.

Isn't this what he did with Abram when God told him to "go...to the land that I will show you" (Genesis 12:1). God didn't give him all the details or answer all the logistical questions, but Abram took a huge step of faith and went anyway. I think this is normal operating procedure for God. He wants us to have faith in him to take care of the details and for us to take the step of faith.

Since my co-worker started the Bible study, it has become a weekly event that has good attendance and is very encouraging and uplifting for those who attend. God isn't finished working in and through that group but it is exciting to see where it is now.

Perhaps God has put something on your heart to start...writing a book, going on a mission trip, having a challenging conversation with someone, etc. Whatever it is, ask God to help you trust him to take care of the details, then take that first step and just start.

What kinds of things do you feel challenged to start?  What is holding you back?
